North Andover was settled in 1644 and was named after the home of many of the settlers from Andover, England. As the town grew, it eventually split into two separate towns North Andover, and Andover. North Andover was incorporated in 1855.
Of the two Andovers, North Andover was the first to be settled. The town spread both South and West of its original plot of land and formed a rift between the old center and the newly settled center. The split between the two towns came in 1709 as a new church was built in the new settlement; however, it wasn’t until 1855 that the towns officially became separate.
During the Salem Witch Trials, Joseph Ballard and his wife were Arlington residents who deeply believed that there were witches in the Andovers, so they recruited the help of younger women to help identify who they deemed witches. Over forty of the Andovers residents were convicted of witchcraft and three were executed. It wasn’t until twenty years later the convictions were overturned.
During the Revolutionary War, North Andover and Andover established a militia of 350 men who were set to march to the Battles of Lexington and Concord, however they arrived late and didn’t see battle until the Battle of Bunker Hill. Following the war, and until the Civil War, North Andover had established itself as a small agricultural town, however after siding with the Union in the Civil War, many of the Andovers residents participated in the underground railroad, and upwards of 600 residents of the Andovers participants saw battle in the war.
Today North Andover serves predominantly as a bedroom community, with some industry in the town, with companies like AT&T and Lucent Technologies.

For many customers the most worrisome part of having a home security system installed is the craftsmanship of the installation in general. One North Andover customer in particular canceled and rescheduled his appointment with one of our customer service representatives several times before he decided to learn how we would handle this common concern. He feared that wiring the house would be difficult, as well as intrusive and messy.
During the customer’s consultation it was explained that although some houses can be difficult to wire, our staff includes expert installers who are great at hiding wires. Still a little uneasy this customer allowed American Alarm to install his home security and fire alarm system as well as a BOSE home theatre system. Our installers performed well above the customer’s expectation. Not a single wire was exposed or out of place.
