Burlington was first settled in 1641, and was incorporated in 1799, with its name deriving from the English town Bridlington which is known for summer months tourism and shellfish trade.

It was also named as one of top 1,000 places to visit in Massachusetts. From the seventeenth through nineteenth centuries, most of the industry in the area was based around mills and farming, especially around Vine Brook, where mills both grist and saw mills functioned.
Since then, Burlington has become a suburban industrial town. After the construction of route 128, which started in 1927, Burlington became flooded with new residents and industry. From the years 1955-1965, the population tripled and Burlington became the fastest growing town in the state. In recent years Burlington has become famous for the large amount of technology companies in the area, even backed by the motto “Where technology goes to work.” They have also enjoyed recent success of the sports programs over the past 30 years sending four residents to the Olympics.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is often called the silent killer. If a furnace or chimney malfunctions, CO can build up to deadly levels in a home. Even before the recent passage of Nicole’s Law in Massachusetts requiring CO detectors in all homes, an American Alarm customer in Burlington opted to include CO detectors in their home security system.
American Alarm Integrates a CO Detector and Burglar Alarm For a Burlington Family
The family had just bought a colonial home at the end of a cul-de-sac in one of Burlington’s many fine neighborhoods. The home was situated so the rear deck and sliding glass doors were completely hidden from view. This is a potential point of entry for a burglar. American Alarm’s professional staff took special care to protect that area of the home from intrusion. The integrated CO detectors for the system give then peace of mind. They are protected from the silent killer of carbon monoxide.
