According to the FBI Crime Database for Massachusetts’ 279 cities and towns, Sudbury was ranked 258th in “Most Property Damage per 100,000” in 2013 declining from 264th in 2012. However, it was 277th for “Most Burglaries per 100,000” improving from 245th in 2012.

Sudbury was first permanently settled in 1638, and it only took a year for it to become incorporated, while around 130 settlers made up the original town. The name came from a town of the same name in England.
When Sudbury was first settled, the settlers and natives were on good terms due to the peaceful purchase of land by the settlers from the native Cato, who was eventually given the nickname “Goodman” by the settlers, and was granted land for his family on present day Goodman’s Hill.
The peace between the natives and settlers however was short lived. In June of 1675, King Philip’s War began and spread through Massachusetts like wildfire. Sudbury, in particular received a brunt of the war, in what is now called the Attack on Sudbury. Less than a year after the start of the War, on April 21, 1676 the natives surprised settlers and attacked the town. Of the sixty man militia that was formed, nearly half were killed in the battle. There is a plaque in town commemorating the militia. Nearly one hundred years later the militia of Sudbury also helped during the Battles of Lexington and Concord, and later on in the Battles of Ticonderoga and Bunker Hill.
After the wars, Sudbury became an agricultural community. With a small population living within the twenty-five square miles of land in Sudbury, a split in the town was inevitable and from Sudbury the towns Wayland and Maynard were formed during the eighteenth century.
Throughout its history, Sudbury has never had a very large population until in recent years when it has rapidly increased. In 1940 there were less than 2,000 residents, as opposed to today which there are over 17,000 residents. Present Sudbury enjoys it’s recognition for being a wealthy town with excellent school systems and rich ties to early colonial history.
The most famous historic site in Sudbury is the Wayside Inn. This Inn is the oldest in the country and has been in operation since 1686. Some of the more interesting facts about its history came during the nineteenth and twentieth century. In 1863 the famous Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote Tales of a Wayside Inn, while staying at what was called Howe’s Tavern, named after the owner David Howe. The most famous poem of the collection is “Paul Revere’s Ride.” After Tales of a Wayside Inn was published the tavern changed its name to Wayside Inn. Henry Ford also owned to property during the twentieth century. While he owned it, he expanded the Inn and built a mill, a chapel and a schoolhouse.
Scott and Chris Evans are brothers who were born and raised in Sudbury. Both attended and graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury High School before going on to become actors. Scott Evans is famous for his role in the TV show One Life to Live. His older brother Chris has had a much more illustrious career, starring in the movie series, Fantastic Four, The Avengers and Captain America.
Dennis Eckersley is a Boston sports legend who played in the MLB for twenty-four seasons and spent eight of those seasons playing for the Boston Red Sox. He currently lives in Sudbury but also lived in town during his playing days. Over the course of his career, he won awards such as six All-Star awards, an MVP award, a Cy Young award and in his first year of eligibility he was inducted into MLB’s Hall of Fame.

A customer of ours in Sudbury recently decided to expand and renovate their home. As a result, they needed to extend the coverage of their American Alarm monitored security and fire system. As part of that project, the customer also decided to add some new technology, which until recent years had not generally been feasible for a residential application-closed circuit television (CCTV).
Subury Resident Installs CCTV Technology And Can View Property Via TV or Computer Screen
In the past couple of years, CCTV technology has advanced dramatically-costs have dropped and the size of cameras is much reduced, making them unobtrusive for the home setting. Working closely with this customer, we helped design a video system that has camera coverage on the entrances to the home and in the back yard area. The system allows our customer to view the external surroundings of the property from any computer screen or television in the home. The system also can be accessed over the Internet, so family members with the proper code can check in and view the home when they are at work or traveling out of town.
