Based in New England since 1971, we’ve worked in the Tewksbury area for decades. We know the landscape and we have good relationships with local police and fire officials. Our team of employees (200 strong and growing) live in the communities we serve, this means our customers are our neighbors.
Tewksbury was first settled by Europeans in 1637, as part of neighboring Billerica. In 1734, the town seceded and became incorporated as its own town, taking the name Tewksbury. The name Tewksbury came from a town of the same name in England.
Prior to Europeans arriving in the area, Tewksbury was originally home to natives who thrived in the area with the wealth of fertile land surrounding the Shawsheen River. After European settlers came to the area, they too took advantage of the area and used the Shawsheen River for its resources. While it began as an agriculture and farming community, it soon developed and started building infrastructure such as mills, the first coming two years after the town was incorporated.
As time went on, the town returned to its agricultural roots and began constructing greenhouses which would help form a new industry which sold flowers to nearby communities. The most popular flower from the town became the carnation, and by 1976, the town had grown 2,000,000 carnations, which helped earn it the nickname “Carnation Capital of the World.” Today the town of 32,000, is a mostly residential town with some industry, which for the most part centers around technology, however, many residents commute to work due to ease of access to major highways.
Anne Sullivan is best known as for her role as the life-long companion and tutor of Helen Keller. Born in Agawam, she was sent to a community home in Tewksbury after her mother’s death during Anne’s youth. At a young age she began mentoring and tutoring disadvantaged youths, finding solace in helping others. At just twenty years old, Sullivan was asked to help a young Helen Keller and become her tutor. Under Sullivan’s tutelage, Keller was able to harness her potential and become a well known historic and literary figure in American history.

After the War, he entered Politics, first becoming a Senator for Mississippi, and later the Governor for Mississippi. In his later years, he returned to the north where he would reside in Tewksbury where he would own mills locally.
Many times our team at American Alarm will help a family modify, upgrade or improve an existing home security system, regardless of which company installed it in the first place.
Tewksbury Family Calls American Alarm To Help With Their Pet Problem
For example, we recently worked with a family that had bought a home in Tewksbury. The house had a basic security system, installed by another company, that used motion detectors to guard against intrusion. Our customer has a large dog which has the run of the house, so the motion detectors could not be used when the alarm was activated because the dog would set it off. We replaced the motion detectors with hard contact points on doors and windows. We also upgraded the control panel and other elements of the system so that our customer’s home is now fully protected.
