According to the FBI Crime Database for Massachusetts’ 279 cities and towns, Wayland was ranked 274th in “Most Property Damage per 100,000” in 2013 improving from 265th in 2012. However, it was 241st for “Most Burglaries per 100,000” declining from 248th in 2012.

Prior to European settlement, natives settled in the area for over 10,000 years where they would thrive with the nearby ponds and rivers. Wayland was first settled in 1639, as part of Sudbury Plantation. In 1780 it was incorporated as East Sudbury, and in the same year its name was changed to Wayland, named after Dr. Francis Wayland.
First settled as part of the Sudbury Plantation in 1639, there were originally sixty settlers. This original settlement was unique in that it was only the third settlement that was inland, the other two being Concord and Dedham. Wayland is also the last site of the King Philip’s War. In 1676, natives attacked the East side of the town, but were met by settler enforcements who would subdue the fighting.
As time went on, the town of Sudbury which included Wayland, became one of the larger towns near Boston. As the Revolutionary War approached, Sudbury assembled a formiddable militia which had numbers that went upward of 400 soldiers. Over 300 of these soldiers saw battle at the Battles of Lexington and Concord.
Today Wayland is celebrated for having the first free public library, it’s excellent school systems and being upscale suburban town which ranks top five in conservation land in the state.
Wayland boasts a number of hiking and biking trails through the abundant conservation land. In addition to the conservation, it also is home to Lake Cochituate and Dudley Pond which offer activities such as boating, fishing and swimming. Outside of the natural environment for recreation, there are two golf courses, the Wayland Country Club and Sandy Burr Country Club.
Sammy Adams was born in nearby Cambridge before moving to Wayland with his family where he was raised. He attended high school at Beaver County Day School and Wayland High School and from there he would attend Hobart and William Smith Colleges before transferring to Trinity College where he would star as a soccer player and become a Captain for the team during his senior season. He is now a rapper having released his debut album Homecoming in October of 2013 with the main single L.A. Story.
Tim Murphy is the current Head Coach for the Harvard Crimson football team, a position he has held since 1994. Since Murphy has been the coach, the Crimson have gone on to have ten winning seasons, and has made Murphy the most winningest coach in Harvard football history. Before becoming the Head Coach of Harvard, he was the Head Coach of both the Maine Black Bears and the Cincinnati Bearcats.
Lydia Maria Child was born in nearby Medford where she would live for the first part of her life. After leaving Medford, she found home in Wayland where she would live until her death in 1880. She was most famous for her poem “Over the River and Through the Woods,” but also wrote on her opinions as an abolitionist and women’s rights.

An Electrician talked a client in Wayland who was renovating his home into installing a low cost 110-volt fire alarm system. This turned out to be a very costly mistake. The insurance industry now requires homes worth over $1 million to include a low voltage fire alarm system that reports to a central station.
The new fire codes do not allow for two separate fire alarm systems in a home. In order to install a low voltage centrally monitored fire alarm system, the customer first had to hire an electrician to remove the 110-volt fire system. In most cases, due to the electrical codes, the same holes cannot be used and must be covered by blank plates. There was also the concern of damage resulting from the installation of a new fire system without the benefit of opened walls. American Alarm was recommended for the by Chubb Insurance. Our professionals went into the home and installed the required fire alarm system without damaging the house or disturbing the household.
