The area that is now Winchester was first settled by European colonists in 1640. Winchester was formed in 1850, when parts from Arlington, Cambridge, Medford and Woburn seceded and formed the town Winchester. The name Winchester came as a testament to Lieutenant Colonel William Parsons Winchester after he made a large payment toward the construction of a town hall in Winchester.
Winchester was first settled by then residents of Charlestown, and the area was called “Waterfield,” a reference to the many nearby bodies of water. The development in town was slow with the original settlement being a mostly agrarian based. However, mills were constructed along the rivers in town and the construction of the Middlesex Canal allowed for easier and better trade routes to Boston and other nearby towns and cities.
As the Industrial Revolution came and new trade routes were opened through the Middlesex Canal, many industries popped up along the rivers, including the production of leather goods, lumber, luxury items and shoes. Today, Winchester is known for the excellent public school systems, and with a population of around 20,000 it is still able to maintain its close-knit feel.

The integrated home security system included door contacts and motion detectors installed to the family’s needs and concerns. The fire system included smoke detectors that were installed to meet code requirements. Also incorporated into the design was a solution to a major concern. The Winchester family has a child who is hearing impaired. How would she hear the alarm when it went off and know that she needed to get to safety? The integrated system specialist assigned to Winchester knew just what to do. He added strobe lights to the system to go off when the alarm is triggered. By including this feature our system specialist added peace of mind that this little girl would be safe.
