Based in New England since 1971, we’ve worked in the Wellesley area for decades. We know the landscape and we have good relationships with local police and fire officials. Our team of employees (200 strong and growing) live in the communities we serve, this means our customers are our neighbors.
Wellesley was originally settled by natives, prior to Europeans settling the area. Although it was first settled in the 1630’s, it took until 1881 to become incorporated after being part of Dedham. Wellesley is named after the estate of H.H. Hunnewell, who worked in finance and horticulture.
In order to settle the land now known as Wellesley, settlers paid the native tribes five pounds in currency and the equivalent of three pounds in corn for a deed to the land. The original land was part of Dedham, which interestingly enough was one of the first three inland settlements in the country. After about seventy-five years towns started breaking away from Dedham; first, Needham in 1711, and later Wellesley, which seceded in 1881.
The railroad came through town after its construction in the 1830’s, this changed Wellesley from a quiet rural town to a bustling suburb. In 1875, Henry Durant founded Wellesley College, which has become a nationally regarded university, which was ranked as number seven best liberal arts college by U.S. News and World Report in 2014.
By 1880, the town had seceded and was home to banks, telephones and newspapers. The town carefully planned its growth, and it transitioned from the agricultural community to a lively community which was home to beautiful architecture and landscape.
Today, Wellesley is known for being one of the most highly educated towns in the country. Over half of the residents hold a degree higher than a baccalaureate and it is also home to the colleges Wellesley College, Massachusetts Bay Community College and Babson College. Aside from education, Wellesley is also known for being prominent as headquarters for major corporations, including Roche Bros., Sun Life Financial and Eagle Investment Systems.
Among the recreational spots in the area are Lake Waban and the Wellesley Country Club. Lake Waban boasts a scenic path used for biking and hiking as well as sailing on the lake, while the Wellesley Country Club, is considered one of the best is New England.

One of the biggest concerns of our customers is the quality of our craftsmanship. In this case a customer in Wellesley was also more concerned for his family’s personal safety than the potential loss of valuable items. He wanted a complete perimeter home security system. In this case the devices that were needed were all windows and doors hard wired on the first floor and in the basement. Several other companies told him that this could not be done because his basement was finished and his window frames and sills were solid mahogany.
A wireless home security system was not an esthetic option. So after long consideration and a few cancellations, with guarantees that we would not destroy his home he took a chance on American Alarm. That customer is extremely please to this day and is one of our best referral sources for customers concerned about the quality of our installations.
