Southborough was first settled by Europeans in 1660 as part of Marlborough. The area would remain part of Marlborough until 1727 when it seceded and was incorporated as its own town. The name Southborough comes from the geographic location as being south of Marlborough.
After the Howe family found great success living in the town beginning in 1638, word of the family’s success spread and by the time the 1650’s came, settlers from nearby towns such as Sudbury came to the area. As the settlement grew, the natives and settlers lived in harmony as the settlers helped protect the natives from neighboring tribes. Through this relationship, Marlborough’s settlers and natives society became intertwined and Marlborough became one of seven Praying Indian towns and maintained a civil relationship until King Philip’s War when natives nearly destroyed the settlement.
After the War, the area quickly developed and many industries and mills emerged in the area. Once Southborough became incorporated, and by the end of the nineteenth century, the biggest industries in town were the production of boots, plaster and straw bonnets.
Today, Southborough is a primarily a residential town with many conservation and other protected lands. The town of around 10,000 is home to an excellent school system and renowned nature.

Southborough Resident Installs Fire, Burglar, and Enviromental Hazard Protection
An established customer of American Alarm recently moved to the Central Massachusetts community of Southborough and asked us to review the security needs of their new home. The new home was set on a picturesque rolling lot, with a stream running through it. The stream carried a strong flow of water all year long and at times would flood portions of the surrounding land. Our customer’s new home was equipped with a sump pump in the basement to handle any rising water, so to guard against pump or power failure we integrated water and power sensors into the home’s security system. Now the home and family are protected from fire and intrusion, but also the potential environmental hazard of the stream.
