Nicole’s Law, recently adopted in Massachusetts, is widely recognized as a requirement for residential properties. But the new law, which calls for carbon monoxide detectors in any building where people reside, will also impact business security systems. Hotels, large apartment complexes, nursing homes and similar facilities will eventually be required to comply with the new regulations. Recently, American Alarm worked with a company building an assisted living facility in the City of Revere. In addition to a state-of-the-art fire system, with heat and smoke detectors, as well as annunciation devices (horns and strobes) in every unit, American Alarm designed in a carbon monoxide detection capability for the entire facility. By being proactive, we helped our commercial client “future proof” their system, thereby offering a higher level of protection for their residents and at the same time avoiding costs of retrofitting the system down the road when the CO monitoring requirements kick in.
