Based in New England since 1971, we’ve worked in the Chelmsford area for decades. We know the landscape and we have good relationships with local police and fire officials. Our team of employees (200 strong and growing) live in the communities we serve, this means our customers are our neighbors.
In 1653, the area now known as Chelmsford was settled by colonists from neighboring settlements in Concord and Woburn. Chelmsford was incorporated in 1655 and was named after the city of the same name in England. At the time of its incorporation, it contained land from the present towns Carlisle, parts of Lowell, Tyngsboro and Westford.
Since its incorporation and until the twentieth century, Chelmsford was a primarily a farming community. Set in the middle of two rivers, the Merrimack River and the Concord River. This not only allowed for fertile land for farming but also allowed for a rise in industry. Apart from the agriculture, Chelmsford also was supported by lumber mills, quarries and kilns.
At the time of the Revolutionary war, over 150 Chelmsford men joined ranks in the Battle of Concord, only to later see battle at the Battle of Bunker Hill. Among the soldiers killed in battle were Colonel Moses Parker and Captain Benjamin Walker.
Since this time Chelmsford has tried to remain connected to its roots by retaining the small town feel, while also bolstering an increasingly industrialized are. By the 1800’s it became one of the largest factory towns in the nation after an abundance of manufacturers arose in the area. Currently it has the largest population in Middlesex County, and in 2011 it was declared one of the top places to live in the country by Money Magazine.
Like many other towns in Middlesex County, Chelmsford is home to many historic residences like the Fiske House, Hildreth- Robbins House, Oliver Hutchins House and Chelmsford Garrison House. In 1691, there were nineteen garrisons in Chelmsford which housed British soldiers. The Chelmsford Garrison House was one of them and remains virtually unchanged since it was built and now operates as a museum. It shows a typical living quarter for a family at the time.
