Based in New England since 1971, we’ve worked in the Avon area for decades. We know the landscape and we have good relationships with local police and fire officials. Our team of employees (200 strong and growing) live in the communities we serve, this means our customers are our neighbors.
Avon, which was first settled in 1700, was originally known as East Stoughton. It became part of Stoughton when that town was founded in 1716. Because some residents of East Stoughton did not approve of how their section of town was treated, the community voted to form a separate town in 1888. However, East Stoughton did not have enough land to form a town, so a small piece of land was also acquired from Holbrook. Avon, named for the River Avon in England, was incorporated in 1888. The town’s seal includes a bust of William Shakespeare, who was from Stratford-upon-Avon, England.
Avon is considered to be a prestigious community located along Route 24, about 20 miles south of Boston. The combination of good highway access and a positive attitude toward economic growth and development in the community has enabled the town to develop as a major employment center in the South Shore area. The Avon Industrial Park, a business and industrial center, includes manufacturing, research, distribution, retail, technology and non-profit organizations.
The Avon Baptist church, built in 1780 on the Randolph-Avon Line, was moved to North Main Street where it still stands today.
The Blanchard 1820 House Museum on North Main Street was originally built as a private home in 1820 by Captain Samuel Robbins. The land belonged to his wife Sally Loring who inherited it from her seagoing father. Robbins was a Master who worked for Samuel Draper of Boston, in the European and West Indies trade. In 1847 Captain Robbins and his vessel, “Sharon,” carrying a cargo of cotton bound for Hamburg Germany, were lost at sea two days after leaving Savannah, Georgia.
The Civil War Memorial Army-Navy Memorial depicts a standing figure of a Union soldier holding his rifle at parade rest. The memorial, which stands in front of the Blanchard 1820 House Museum on North Main Street, honors the men of Avon who served with the Army and the Navy during the Civil War.
