According to the FBI Crime Database for Massachusetts’ 279 cities and towns, Plainville was ranked 101st in “Most Property Damage per 100,000” in 2013 improving from 97th in 2012. However, it was 105th for “Most Burglaries per 100,000” declining from 161st in 2012.

Plainville was settled in 1661, at which time it was part of the town of Dedham. It became part of Wrentham in 1673. In its early days, Plainville was nicknamed Slackville after Benjamin Slack, an affluent landowner at the time. After a post office was established in 1856, Plainville became the town name because of the many geographical plains in the area.
In 1905, Plainville officially separated from Wrentham and was incorporated as a town in 1905. It is the youngest town in Norfolk County, which was created on March 26, 1793, and the third youngest town in the state, behind Millville (1916) and East Brookfield (1920).
Plainville was the home to George Robert Twelves Hewes, a Revolutionary War veteran who also took part in the Boston Tea Party as well as the Battle of Rhode Island.
Along with neighboring North Attleboro, Plainville shares the Angle Tree Stone, a historic marker dividing the boundaries between the old Massachusetts Bay Colony and Plymouth Bay Colony. This is why the Angle Tree Stone is in the official town seal.
Honey Dew Donuts is now based in Plainville, although it was founded in Mansfield. In 1978, the Honey Dew Donuts in Plainville was the first coffee and donut shop in New England to implement a drive-thru window.
Jeffrey Patrick “Jeff” Kinney was born in Fort Washington, Maryland on February 19, 1971. Kinney, an American game designer, cartoonist, producer, actor and author of children’s books including the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” book series, lives in Plainville.
Mosiula Mea’alofa “Lofa” Tatupu was born in San Diego on November 15, 1982. Lofa Tatupu is a former American football linebacker who played six seasons in the National Football League, including with the Seattle Seahawks. The son of the late former USC Trojan and New England Patriots fullback Mosi Tatupu, Lofa Tatupu raised in Plainville.
