First settled in 1630, the town of East Bridgewater began as extension the Plymouth and Duxbury plantations. By 1723 it was known as the “East Parish” of Olde Bridgewater and in 1823 was finally incorporated. The town had close to 14000 people in 2010, and lies just twenty-seven miles south of Boston.
East Bridgewater began its life quietly enough; located on the northern end of the Taunton River, the town’s economy was largely agrarian. During the American Revolution, however, East Bridgewater developed an iron works which provided both muskets and cannon for Colonial Forces. By the late 19th century, trolley and rail lines spurred residential growth and the town returned to its more idyllic roots.
East Bridgewater is also known as the home of Jack Turner’s brother. Turner—a famous bank robber—is widely believed to have hidden his fortune in East Bridgewater before dying at the hands of Union agents in 1864.

Great for a family to get out and see the Massachuttets countryside, and also offers fruit picking: Apples, strawberries and blueberries to name a few. Prefer not to pick? You can also check out Robbins Pond, the largest body of water in East Bridgewater in the southwest corner of town. Rumor has it that ducks “of massive proportions” have been spotted in the area.
There are a few famous Americans who call East Bridgewater home. First is former Red Sox pitcher Manny Delcarmen, World Series champion in 2007 and known as “the pride of Hyde Park.” MMA fighter Joe Lauzon — ranked in the sport’s top 20 — also hails from East Bridgewater. In addition, character actor Tom Everett Scott, best known for roles in the movie That Thing You Do and the television show Southland.
