Based in New England since 1971, we’ve worked in the Plympton area for decades. We know the landscape and we have good relationships with local police and fire officials. Our team of employees (200 strong and growing) live in the communities we serve, this means our customers are our neighbors.
Plympton was originally settled as the western parish of Plymouth in 1662, but in 1707 was incorporated and named after Plympton, Devon, England. At first, the town site included all of present-day Carver and Halifax along with portions of Kingston and Middleborough. In 1734, Halifax broke from the town and in 1790 Carver did the same. Today, Plmypton is mostly residential and claims a permanent population of just under 3000.
The first residents of Plympton cultivated farmland, but the Industrial Revolution brought commercial opportunities such as shoe and shovel factories along with lumber and cotton mills. Despite these early signs of industrialization, however, Plympton remains largely rural and is one of the least-developed towns in the South Shore area.
Plympton is known for its classic small-town charm, which stems in part from its rows of antique homes. Stop by Harrub’s Corner or Plympton Green for a look at some amazing architecture, or check out the cemetery at the north end of the Green which is home to several stellar examples of early Colonial Stone carving.
The most famous resident claimed by Plympton was Deborah Sampson, who dressed as a man to enlist in the Revolutionary War Army. Under the pseudonym of Robert Shritliffe, Sampson fought in several critical battles and was eventually wounded on the field — twice — but her secret was not discovered until she took sick with a fever and had to be hospitalized. In light of her contributions to the war effort, Sampson was given an honorable discharge. A bronze tablet contributed by the Daughters of the American revolution is mounted upon a boulder in Plymouth Green to honor her story.
