Based in New England since 1971, we’ve worked in the Brewster area for decades. We know the landscape and we have good relationships with local police and fire officials. Our team of employees (200 strong and growing) live in the communities we serve, this means our customers are our neighbors.
The town of Brewster was originally part of Harwich and settled in 1656. By the 1690s, however, wealthy merchants and sea-captains of Harwich’s north end decided to separate and form their own community which they named in honor of Elder William Brewster, first religious leader of the Pilgrims at Plymouth County. Today, Brewster has just fewer than 10,000 residents and is “twinned” with the English town of Budleigh Salterton.
Much of Brewster’s history revolves around Stony Brook, the first water-powered grist and woolen mill in the United States, which remains in operation to this day. The town was also home to numerous mansions and stately homes—many are now bed-and-breakfast destinations for travelers in the Cape Cod area.
Looking for something to do in Brewster? It’s worth checking out Stony Brook, which opens at the end of June each year. Through August, families can see the water wheel in action, purchase fresh-ground organic cornmeal and enjoy the nearby footpaths. Brewster is also home to Long Pond, the largest pond on Cape Cod.
Brewster has associations with several famous Americans. Samuel M. Nickerson, president of the First National Bank of Chicago kept a summer home there and the Brewster Wildcaps of the Cape Cod Baseball League have produced more than a few MLB stars.
