Based in New England since 1971, we’ve worked in the Westport area for decades. We know the landscape and we have good relationships with local police and fire officials. Our team of employees (200 strong and growing) live in the communities we serve, this means our customers are our neighbors.
Named because it was the westernmost port in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, Westport was first settled in 1670 by members of the Sisson family. At that time it was part of Dartmouth. Like many areas in the region, Westport was invaded by the Wampanoag Indians during King Philip’s War. Then in 1787, Westport as well as the town of New Bedford, seceded from Dartmouth.
At one time there were several cotton mills along the river, the largest of which was at the junction of the river with Lake Noquochoke on the Dartmouth town line. The Macomber turnip traces its ancestry to turnips farmed in Westport shortly after 1876. During WWII, a coastal defense installation was installed on Gooseberry Island. Horseneck Beach State Reservation is a popular summer destination for people in the area.
