Acton is probably best known for its involvement in the Revolutionary War, which began through a letter sent to the King of England at the time, King George III, which outlined complaints with the government. The anniversary of the day this was sent is called the Crown Resistance Day, and is still celebrated today through re-enactments of battles and historic tours of Acton. As the war approached Acton assembled a militia that would go on to fight in the Battles of Lexington and Concord; the militia was captained by Isaac Davis who died in battle, becoming the first officer to die in the war.
After the war, Acton saw continued growth and by the mid-nineteenth century, during the Industrial Revolution, there were three grist mills and four saw mills in town. Acton also became one of the leading manufacturers of pencils in the country after Ebenezer Wood created a process that could create 144 pencils at once. Around the same time the Fitchburg Railroad came to Acton, helping increase commercialism in the town and allowed for trade from as far as New York. When the twentieth century rolled around Acton still was predominantly an agricultural town with a population just over 2,000. As suburban towns like Acton became more industrial, populations increased and by 1975 the population was 17,000. Today the population is around 22,000 people and Acton remains a predominantly suburban town with some industry.
Many historic sites can still be found in Acton today, such as, the Hosmer house, the Faulkner House, and two science museums. Acton is also surrounded by nature, with both manmade and natural elements. Places like “Nathaniel Allen Recreation Area (NARA),” is used year round, hosting sports during the spring through fall and a popular sledding hill in the winter, while is a large area of protected lands including the 53 acre Acton Arboretum which includes, butterfly, flower and an herb garden among the various trees, and the 400 acre Nashoba Brook conservation area.

An Acton Resident Has A Special Request For American Alarm
One of our home security system customers in Acton came to American Alarm with an interesting request. The customer wanted to secure his home and the office located above his garage. The customer wanted both areas to arm separately and act as if they had their own system, and to be accessible by any keypad in the home. The home security solution we provided enabled the customer to arm the home portion of the security system while working in his office, and the office component of the security system when he left the office for the evening.
