Based in New England since 1971, we’ve worked in the Medway area for decades. We know the landscape and we have good relationships with local police and fire officials. Our team of employees (200 strong and growing) live in the communities we serve, this means our customers are our neighbors.
Medway was first settled in 1657 and officially incorporated in 1713. At that time, Medway began as a farming community with 233 residents. Before cotton and paper mills, straw and boot factories and a variety of cottage industries grew in the town thanks to the water power of the Charles River and Chicken Brook. Initially, Medway included the land that is now Millis. In 1885, the eastern section of the town, known as East Medway, separated to form the town of Millis.
Located along the Charles River in the southeast corner of town, the Medway Village Historic District was designated as a National Historic District in December, 2008. Medway Village consists of over two hundred historic buildings on approximately 60 acres of land. Medway Village was the first area in town to see significant growth as the textile mills on the falls of the Charles River were established at the end of the eighteenth century and the industrial development during the nineteenth century. By the 1830s, the area was known as Factory Village.
The Cary-Finnernan House on John Street (1852- 1858) and the Cary-Barton House on Village Street (1831-1852) were two of the many houses owned by William H. Cary in the middle of the nineteenth century and presumably rented to mill workers.
The Philo Sanford Mansion, the large white house on the corner John and Sanford streets, is said to date to 1811. It is a large well-preserved double house with a Georgian plan distinguished by two tiers of rooms on either side of a center stair hall. The original owner was one of the founding partners of the Medway Manufacturing Company.
The large yellow building at 118-120 Village St., was once known as the “White House.” It got its name from its association with the affairs of the White Mill, forerunner of the later Sanford Mill. Built around 1812, the White House was built to house mill workers.
