Wrentham was first settled by European colonists in 1660 and incorporated less than fifteen years later in 1673. It took the name Wrentham from a village of the same name in England, although it has also been known by many other names such as, Lake Pearl Station, Sheldonville, Wampum and Wollomonopaug. The land was originally settled by natives, however, in 1635, a large parcel of land including present day Wrentham was sold to colonists through what is known as Dedham Grant. After arriving in 1660, and realizing the bountiful lakes in the area, they began a permanent settlement. Throughout its history, Wrentham has experienced slow and modest growth. Today, the town has a population of 10,000 enjoys a balance of the nearby recreation while still maintaining the rural and close-knit community feel.
Restaurants:
Due to the rural nature of the town, most of the recreation in Wrentham involves the outdoors. Some of the sites are the two large farms in town and the three lakes within the town borders. Big Apple Farm and White Barn Farm are the two major farms in the town. Big Apple Farm produces a wide array of produce including twenty-four types of apples, twenty-eight types of vegetables and a variety of other fruits, while White Barn Farm is centered around vegetables and the community. A family-owned farm since the 1840’s, this farm is CSA run and continually strives to provide the best produce around. Among the three lakes in town, Lake Pearl is best known. Locals come here to enjoy the beach, fish, swim and paddleboard the lake.
Scott Brown is best known for his career in politics, which most recently saw him as a Massachusetts State Senator. Brown was born in Southern Maine, before his family relocated and moved to Wakefield, where he was raised. After graduating from Wakefield High School in 1977, he would go on to attend Tufts University, where he would graduate from with cum laude honors and later from Boston College Law School. His first major role in politics came in 1998, when he was elected as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. He would later serve as Senator for four years. He currently lives in Wrentham with his family.
Mosi & Lofa Tatupu are a father son duo, both of whom played in the NFL and achieved success while doing so. Mosi, the father, was born in the American Samoa, however he was raised in Hawaii, where he would realize his love for football, whilst setting many Hawaii Rushing Records before going on to attend University of Southern California (USC). He was drafted in the 1978 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots with the 216th overall pick. He spent thirteen of his fourteen professional seasons playing for the Patriots as a Running Back. He resided in Wrentham during his time with the Patriots and was father to Lofa who would play on the Wrentham High school team with Mosi as the Head Coach. After high school, he would attend his father’s alma mater, USC for two years starring as the teams linebacker. He was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft with the forty-fifth overall pick. He has played for the Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons during his career.
Stephen Gostkowski was born in Mississippi where he would excel in athletics, playing baseball, football and soccer. He would go on to attend University of Memphis, before being drafted by the New England Patriots in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, becoming one of two Place-Kickers to be drafted that year. since being drafted, he has been the Patriots starting Kicker, and is widely regarded as one of the best in the NFL. He currently resides in Wrentham.
