Based in New England since 1971, we’ve worked in the Kingston area for decades. We know the landscape and we have good relationships with local police and fire officials. Our team of employees (200 strong and growing) live in the communities we serve, this means our customers are our neighbors.
The area which became Kingston, MA was originally part of the Wampanoag tribal homeland. European settlers first inhabited the area just after 1620 when the town was still part of Plymouth, and more settlers flocked to the area in 1635. It wasn’t until 1726 that Kingston was officially incorporated after a tax dispute between residents of north and south Plymouth. Now, this coastal town enjoys a resident population of just over 12,000.
Shipbuilding was a primary industry for Kingston during the early and middle part of the 19th century, and the Jones River Landing is the longest continuously-operational shipyard in the United States. Kingston was also known for its ice harvesting industry, which used Jones River Pond to chip and package ice for shipments worldwide. In fact, the pond was renamed to “Silver Lake” as part of an ice harvest marketing effort. Now, Kingston is considered an extension of the Boston metropolitan area and has grown in popularity as a commuter town.
If you’re in Kingston this year, stop by Gray’s Beach Park for a bit of seaside fun, or check out some of the events hosted by the Jones River Historical Society. In July, the Society hosts a large pig roast and concert and in September you can explore the back roads of South Shore.
There are a number of historically notable figures from Kingston, such as William Bradford, governor of Plymouth Colony and a signatory to the Mayflower compact, and Peleg Wadsworth, an American officer during the Revolutionary War and grandfather of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. More recent examples include famous character actor Chris Cooper who now resides in Kingston with his wife, Marianne.
