Fitchburg was settled by in the year 1730, originally a part of nearby Lunenburg. Over thirty years later, in 1764, Fitchburg seceded from Lunenburg and became incorporated. The town became named after one of its original settlers, John Fitch, who was one of the original settlers.
After originally settling as part of Lunenburg, Fitchburg remained a part of the town for over thirty years. However, the distance between the infrastructure in Lunenburg and Fitchburg, proved to be too distant and the towns broke apart. The original development of Fitchburg was slow moving. By the time of the Revolutionary War, Fitchburg only had 800 residents from the town, although they sent nearly a quarter of them to battle.
The town center had been set up along the Nashua River. The original mills were built by Amos Kimball who constructed a grist and saw mill in the 1750’s. After this, many other mills and production businesses came to town, including the third cotton mill in the country and businesses such as clothing stores and a scythe shop. Alvah Crocker, a resident of Fitchburg, built a paper mill. Through the mills success, he built a railroad that ran through the town and brought more business than the town had ever before. By the end of the nineteenth century, Fitchburg had become a major industry provider in the country. Fitchburg has become the third largest city in Worcester county, behind only Worcester and Leominster. With a population of over 40,000, Fitchburg is celebrated for its diversity and commitment to retaining its small town feel although it has become a city.

Medical Emergency in Fitchburg
In downtown Fitchburg, like many older New England cities, most of the commercial buildings were built before the advent of integrated business security and fire alarm systems. As a result, commercial building owners have needed to retrofit older structures with modern business security technology. American Alarm is expert at working in older commercial buildings, to install systems in the most cost-effective and aesthetically compatible ways. Recently, we worked with a client in downtown Fitchburg to upgrade their aging fire alarm system. We designed and installed a state-of-the-art fire system for their office building. Now the facilities are in full compliance with current building codes.
