Based in New England since 1971, we’ve worked in the Grafton area for decades. We know the landscape and we have good relationships with local police and fire officials. Our team of employees (200 strong and growing) live in the communities we serve, this means our customers are our neighbors.
Prior to European settlement in Grafton in 1718, the area was settled by natives of the Nipmuc tribe, where they called the land Hassanamisco which meant “place of small stones.” After remaining settled for nearly twenty years, Grafton became incorporated in 1735 and was named after Charles FitzRoy, 2nd Duke of Grafton.
In 1724, a group of thirty-nine colonists lobbied for the purchase of land from the native Nipmuc tribe for a plot of land extending 7,500 acres. After the town was settled and incorporated, Grafton helped along the American Industrial Revolution. Samuel Slater who was known as the “Father of the American Industrial Revolution” by Andrew Jackson, started running cotton mills in nearby Pawtucket, Rhode Island. After seeing Slater’s success, residents of Grafton started their own complex of mills, beginning with the Upper Mill, which is still in production under the name Washington Mills Complex and produces abrasives. There are still five existing mill sites in Grafton including Upper Mill, Lower Mill, Farnumsville, Fisherville and Centerville.
Apart from the mills in the town, Grafton is home to part the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor and the Hassanamesit Reservation. The Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor is the oldest manufacturing stretch of land in the United States, stretching from Worcester to Providence. The Hassanamesit Reservation is a parcel of land given to the descendents of the Nipmuc natives in Grafton. Grafton is also known for having the largest on-call fire department in the state and for housing a segment of Tufts University.
The two major recreation sites in Grafton are Silver Lake Beach and Highfields Golf and Country Club. Silver Lake Beach is a local beach frequented by both residents and non-residents in the summer. Silver Lake Beach offers both swimming lessons and sand castle building contests in the summer. Highfields Golf and Country Club is the only golf course in Grafton and known for having a full eighteen hole championship course.

Fire protection for a residential complex is a critical service. Not only does it protect the occupants, but for the business that owns or manages the property, it is important for proper risk management and can provide significant savings on insurance costs. We recently worked with a real estate property management company that was having issues with its fire alarm system at a multi-building condominium complex in Grafton. The system was prone to false alarms, and the management was not satisfied with the service they were getting from the fire alarm system provider. American Alarm was called in to evaluate the fire alarm system and take over the ongoing maintenance, inspection and service elements needed to keep the system working properly. Since that time, our client has enjoyed American Alarm’s industry-leading service and the false-alarm problem has been fixed.
