Oxford was settled by Nipmuc native tribes who used the local rivers rich soil to grow a small community. The first European settlers arrived in 1686 and were French Huguenots. The Huguenots formed a settlement also based around the rivers but used them for their industrial purposes, setting up a manufacturing and mill settlement. Eventually the Huguenots were forced out of town and the area remained vacant until 1713, when English settlers came to the area and incorporated the town as Oxford.
The English settlers were primarily farmers when the area was first settled, but as time passed, it soon became a manufacturing and mill town as it previously had been when the Huguenots had settled the town. The emergence of industry in the town brought new residents to help work in the mills. Soon the town began producing goods such as clothing, nails, scythes and wool carding machines.

Among the historic sites in Oxford, the Huguenot Fort stands out most. In 1694, during the Huguenot settlement, Nipmuc natives attacked the Huguenots killing four residents; after the attack, the Huguenots constructed the Huguenot Fort for protection from the natives. The remains of the structure remains today. Another site in town that is known for its historical significance is Hodge’s Village Dam. After a flood in the early twentieth century, caused significant damage in a nearby town, Oxford built this dam on the French River to help control water levels. On this river, there are over eighteen miles of hiking trails, trails for motorized vehicles and numerous sites for other recreation such as boating, fishing, hiking, hunting and swimming.

A customer of ours in Oxford that manufactures consumer goods recently decided it was time to install a monitored fire alarm system. We had installed a business security system some years ago to protect the two-building complex from intrusion. Now, the company wanted to take the important step of protecting its assets and employees from the threat of fire. We designed and installed a leading-edge fire alarm system, which is monitored 24-7 by the trained team at our Security Command Center. If there is ever a whiff of trouble, our monitoring staff is poised to react in less than 20 seconds, all day, every day.
