The area that now makes up Warren was first settled in 1664, as part of the Quaboag Plantation until it later became Brookfield. In 1742, it seceded from Brookfield and became incorporated originally as Western only to later to be changed to Warren, named after a General from the Revolutionary War named Joseph Warren. Since its conception Warren has maintained the small but close knit community. The town of 5,000 mainly serves as a residential town with many residents working in places outside of the town.
